2 Day Pistol Foundation Clinic

ThePistol – 2 Day Clinic is a 12-hour course designed to meet the entry level Core Safety skills builder curriculum. The course will establish the shooters knowledge of safe range operations, firearms safety while handling, loading, unloading, & clearing of a pistol, proper shooting stance, sight alignment, sight picture, breathing and trigger press; all while increasing confidence. Students will also learn about situational shooting and how the laws impact their ability to carry and use their firearm. Students will increase their ability to strike the target in a designated area while in a stationary position. (This course is designed for Iron Sights and all Optics will need to be removed prior to arriving at the Governors Gun Club)

Upon completion of the course: In an indoor, low stress environment students are expected to know when to utilize their pistol in a lawful manner and to be able to engage targets while in a stationary position, without optics. Students will be able to hit a target consistently within a 10-centimeter circle (4 Inch Bull). Students will be given a written test upon completion of the classroom instruction and are required to achieve a passing score of 80 percent in order to move to the firing line and engage targets.

Required Materials

  • Students will be required to provide a personal firearm (handgun), with two magazines (if not revolver).
  • Holster and Proper Belt
  • Minimum of two magazines; four optimal with pouches
  • 200 rounds of Ammunition
  • Hearing and eye protection.
  • Note Pad, Pen and/or Pencil.

Instructor:

Scott Van Valkenburg

Scott is a 23-year veteran of the United States Army and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team. Scott joins us after completing his last assignment in Belgium, where he hand-selected to serve as the Director of Security Operations (Personal and Physical security) to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (Four Star General).

He has instructed Soldiers, Airmen, and Marines in the following areas; Close Quarters Combat, Reflexive Fire, Precision Marksmanship, Transition Fire, Defensive Patrol and Engagement, Offensive Patrol Operations, Marksmanship Basic to Advanced with Pistol, Rifle and Sub Machine Gun, Unarmed Self Defense, Use of Force, Shotgun Breaching and Assault, DOD Antiterrorism officer level 2, Operational Security Officer level 2, and Active Shooter Response Instructor.

Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Post University, Waterbury, Connecticut and is currently pursuing his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; Kenan-Flagler Business Schoo

Jordan Monroe

Jordan Monroe is a 6 year Marine Corps Veteran. As an Infantryman he served one deployment to Afghanistan, one deployment to Japan and another deployment on ship. He enjoys shooting all types of guns including handguns and rifles. He is a 4 times rifle expert qualification in the USMC and 1 time sharpshooter in pistol qualification. He enjoys teaching handgun and rifle fundamentals to newer and less experienced shooters.
