AR-15 Builders Workshop @ Governors Gun Club Powder Springs

AR-15 Builders Workshop will be a hands-on experience on building an AR-15 from the ground up. This course, taught by our certified gunsmith and ATF compliance officer, will explain not only how to build the rifle but also enhance the students practical knowledge of the rifle and laws and regulations as an end user.

Students will be given the option to select one of the following configurations upon signing up for the course:

  • AR-15 Rifle chambered in 5.56 with 16” barrel
  • AR-15 Rifle chambered in .300 Blackout with 16” barrel
  • AR-15 Pistol chambered in 5.56 7.5” barrel
  • AR-15 Pistol chambered in .300 Blackout 7.5” barrel

All AR-15s will be Mil-Spec and include a free-float handguard. Various upgrades will be available for purchases during the course.

Course Content:

  • Workshop is 7 hours to include range time to conduct a live fire function check
  • Lower and upper receiver build class will be taught step-by-step to allow each student enough time to learn the steps
  • The Gunsmith will be able to relate the relevance and importance of each step, broadening the student’s knowledge of their rifle in a practical manner
  • All tools and rifle components will be provided
  • Lunch catered by our lounge in Powder Springs.

David comes to Governors Gun Club with an impressive resume in the Gunsmithing field, with many years of experience in the Atlanta area and proficiencies in handguns, sporting shotguns, as well as modern sporting rifles.

 

SALES TAX
As students of this class will be building their own AR-15 for this course, there is a 6% sales tax applied to all parts included with the class. Total price of parts is $318.00 with tax.

Shotgun Fundamentals @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

Learn to shoot clays the right way! This course will discuss the fundamentals of basic clay shooting and the fundamentals of clay shooting.

While on our Indoor Shotgun Field students will be instructed on proper shot placement as well as the basics of shotgun safety and the best shooting form in a fun, safe, and educational environment.

Topics covered will be: basic shot gun safety, proper shotgun handling, general maintenance, and correct shotgun form. This course requires that students demonstrate safe shotgun handling techniques, while providing a fun, safe, and educational time.

Equipment needed:  Shogun, Shooting Vest, Eye and Ear Protection.  All materials are available for rent at our range. Ammunition will need to be purchased through GGC as our shotgun field requires steel shot ammunition.

At the successful completion of this course the student will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and will be ready to move on to more advanced instruction

Youth Rifle Clinic @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

Youth Rifle Clinic

Parents, are your kids interested in learning the shooting sports?  Would you like to provide your children with firearm instruction from experienced shooters?  This 3-hour course is designed to teach the students aged 8 to 14 the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe handling and use of a 22LR bolt-action rifle.  22LR bolt-action rifles will be provided, one box of 22LR ammunition, along with eye and ear protection.

Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest and standing positions.  This will instruct the student  to demonstrate the ability to utilize safe rifle handling techniques while providing a fun and educational time for students and their families.

For the safety of all of our students, a parent or legal guardian will be required to be present (included in the price of admission), and are encouraged to join in on the fun!

At the successful completion of this course the student will be awarded a Certification of Achievement and will be ready to move on to more advanced instruction.

Instructor: Myles Craig

Myles Craig is the Operations Manager and Chief Range Safety Officer (CRSO) for Governors Gun Club. He is an NRA certified CRSO along with a Level II Range Officer with the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). Myles comes from a safety background via the airlines.  He was the General Manager of Delta Air Lines Inc.’s Corporate Safety Department specifically handling the safe handling of Hazardous Materials in Transport.  Myles also owned his own business packaging Hazardous Materials for transport, training and consulting for Fortune 100 companies.  Myles is a certified Hazardous Materials Transport instructor for all modes of transport and has been instructing for many years.  He can take very complex training materials and present them in fun and relaxed method.

Myles’ approach to firearm training is to ensure students understand the needed skills to safely use firearms, the fundamentals of marksmanship, and the responsibility of firearm ownership.  As a competitive shooter, Myles competed in International Air Piston and Small-Bore Pistol. This competition background allows his students to learn the fundamentals of marksmanship in a fun and educational way.  Students leave the course hitting the X on the target and wanting to learn more.

Georgia Use of Force & Firearms Carry Law @ Governors Gun Club Powder Springs

This is a 3 hour class designed to educate the student on the most current law pertaining to the use of force in Georgia and firearms carry within our state. Subjects covered will be:

Under code 16-11-129, to carry a handgun openly or concealed in the state of Georgia (other than on your property or inside your home, car, or place of business, you must have a Georgia Weapons Carry License. However, to carry a long gun you do not have to have a license to carry as long as you are not prohibited from owning a firearm.

We will also cover statutes related to the carrying of a firearm and Georgia’s reciprocity with other states. At the completion of this course the student will have a clearer understanding of their rights and responsibilities in regards to his/her self-defense in Georgia. Suggested class materials: notepad and pen.

Upon completion of this course the student will receive a Certificate of Completion. ONLY 8 SPOTS AVAILABLE. 

Instructor: Buford Jones

Buford Jones is a Life Member of the NRA and certified NRA Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun instructor. He served in the US Army, Georgia National Guard, and US Army Reserve for 24 years as Military Police, Investigator, and instructor for firearms and evasive driving before retiring from the service. He retired from the Cobb County Police Department in 2015 where he served as a patrol officer, training officer, P.O.S.T. firearms instructor, negotiator, investigator and supervisor.
He is currently employed as a police officer for a local school district and maintains his P.O.S.T Firearms Training Certification. He is a former Georgia National Guard Combat Pistol champion and has been instructing firearms safety and marksmanship for over 30 years.

This is a 3 hour basic handgun course designed to educate the student on the safe handling and use of a handgun. Topics covered will be: basic firearms safety, firearm manipulation, general maintenance and fundamentals of marksmanship. This course requires that the student demonstrate the ability to utilize safe gun handling techniques while participating in a 50 round shooting course.

Equipment Needed: Students will be required to have a personal firearm (handgun), 50 rounds of ammunition, hearing and eye protection and one target. Note: These materials are available for rent and/or purchase at Governors Gun Club prior to the class if needed.

Additional Materials: pistol cleaning kit, shop rags, notepad and pen.

There will be a written test at the end of this class. Passing of the class requires an 80% or better test score.

At the successful completion of this course the student will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.
