Holster Draw & Rapid Fire @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

This course will cover the basics of safely drawing a handgun from a hip holster, or thigh holster from the strong side (weapon firing side). Then go into presenting the handgun towards the target and firing in a rapid fire manner.

Rapid fire for this purpose and use on the Governors Gun Club Range is defined as one shot per second. Successful completion of this course will meet the requirements necessary to draw from a holster and fire when on the GGC Range. This class WILL NOT be designed to teach anyone fast draw techniques.

Equipment needed: Handgun, holster, 50 rounds of ammo, eye and ear protection. All holsters will be inspected by the instructor for safety and security. Ie… the holster must hold the gun securely where it cannot fall out.

For safety reasons there will be no cross draw, shoulder or behind the back holsters allowed in the class.

Instructor: Mike Watkins

Mike’s Law Enforcement career spans 26 years, with 16 years on SWAT in upstate New York. Over Mikes enforcement careers he held assignments as Patrol Officer, K9 Handler, Sergeant, Narcotics Investigator, Lieutenant, SWAT Commander and Chief of Police.

Mike holds numerous Instructor certifications to include: Firearms, Defensive Tactic’s, Combat First Aid, Reality Based training, and was the Lead instructor for multiple SWAT Operator and Firearms Instructor courses. He is also the Chairman of the Board for the New York Tactical Officers Association, where he instructs Operational Planning, Team Leader Development, Warrant Service and Advanced Weapon Operations.

Training with a concept & principle-based methodology is the foundation of all Mikes courses.  If you are open to new ideas and enhancing your skill sets come train with Mike.

Youth Rifle Clinic @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

Youth Rifle Clinic

Parents, are your kids interested in learning the shooting sports?  Would you like to provide your children with firearm instruction from experienced shooters?  This 3-hour course is designed to teach the students aged 8 to 14 the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe handling and use of a 22LR bolt-action rifle.  22LR bolt-action rifles will be provided, one box of 22LR ammunition, along with eye and ear protection.

Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest and standing positions.  This will instruct the student  to demonstrate the ability to utilize safe rifle handling techniques while providing a fun and educational time for students and their families.

For the safety of all of our students, a parent or legal guardian will be required to be present (included in the price of admission), and are encouraged to join in on the fun!

At the successful completion of this course the student will be awarded a Certification of Achievement and will be ready to move on to more advanced instruction.

Instructor: Myles Craig

Myles Craig is the Operations Manager and Chief Range Safety Officer (CRSO) for Governors Gun Club. He is an NRA certified CRSO along with a Level II Range Officer with the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). Myles comes from a safety background via the airlines.  He was the General Manager of Delta Air Lines Inc.’s Corporate Safety Department specifically handling the safe handling of Hazardous Materials in Transport.  Myles also owned his own business packaging Hazardous Materials for transport, training and consulting for Fortune 100 companies.  Myles is a certified Hazardous Materials Transport instructor for all modes of transport and has been instructing for many years.  He can take very complex training materials and present them in fun and relaxed method.

Myles’ approach to firearm training is to ensure students understand the needed skills to safely use firearms, the fundamentals of marksmanship, and the responsibility of firearm ownership.  As a competitive shooter, Myles competed in International Air Piston and Small-Bore Pistol. This competition background allows his students to learn the fundamentals of marksmanship in a fun and educational way.  Students leave the course hitting the X on the target and wanting to learn more.

Shotgun Fundamentals @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

Learn to shoot clays the right way! This course will discuss the fundamentals of basic clay shooting and the fundamentals of clay shooting.

While on our Indoor Shotgun Field students will be instructed on proper shot placement as well as the basics of shotgun safety and the best shooting form in a fun, safe, and educational environment.

Topics covered will be: basic shot gun safety, proper shotgun handling, general maintenance, and correct shotgun form. This course requires that students demonstrate safe shotgun handling techniques, while providing a fun, safe, and educational time.

Equipment needed:  Shogun, Shooting Vest, Eye and Ear Protection.  All materials are available for rent at our range. Ammunition will need to be purchased through GGC as our shotgun field requires steel shot ammunition.

At the successful completion of this course the student will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and will be ready to move on to more advanced instruction

Ladies Handgun Fundamentals @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

This is a 3 hour basic handgun course designed to educate the student on the safe handling and use of a handgun. Topics covered will be: basic firearms safety, firearm manipulation, general maintenance and fundamentals of marksmanship. This course requires that the student demonstrate the ability to utilize safe gun handling techniques while participating in a 50 round shooting course.

Equipment Needed: Students will be required to have a personal firearm (handgun), 50 rounds of ammunition, hearing and eye protection and one target. Note: These materials are available for rent and/or purchase at Governors Gun Club prior to the class if needed.

Additional Materials: pistol cleaning kit, shop rags, notepad and pen.

There will be a written test at the end of this class. Passing of the class requires an 80% or better test score.

At the successful completion of this course the student will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.

Less Lethal Self Defense

Women ages 18-24 are at a higher risk of sexual assault. Do NOT become a victim!

A highly recommended course designed for women, by women for those who cannot or do not wish to carry a firearm for self-protection. The goal of this 2-hour course is to leave women feeling empowered and confident in their abilities to detect and deter potential attacks.

This course will begin by discussing statistics about women and crime; looking at the details surrounding arguably the most comprehensive study done about women who are victims of crimes, and why women might become targets to potential criminals. With the statistics in mind, we will move on to situational awareness and specific signals that we may unknowingly be giving off.

Lastly, we will discuss the various types of less lethal self defense products that are available, including stun guns (and what to look for in a stun gun), pepper spray, and less lethal weapons, in addition to touching on basics of self defense.

Josette Chmiel

Raised around firearms since she was young, Josette grew up in a very firearm friendly environment. Both parents were/are hunters & Josette gave hunting a shot while a teenager. Now a vegan, she no longer hunts but continues to be involved in the firearm industry.

For 8 years, she has been actively involved in our 2A rights.  As a volunteer (former) office manager, current board member, Director of Development/ Event Planner & member of the Legislative Action team of Grass Roots NC, she works the front lines defending our 2A rights.

For the past 7 years, she has continued to hone her own firearm skills, while instructing women who are interested in self-empowerment thru self-protection. Josette is very passionate about women learning the necessary means to protect themselves with less lethal forms of self-defense to embracing new shooters to assisting those interested in stepping out into competitions.

Her current teaching certifications include NRA Basic Pistol, NRA Inside & Outside the Home Protection, Chief Range Safety Officer. She is also qualified to teach NC Concealed Carry Class.  Josette is a Smith & Wesson armorer.

 

US ARMS

The United States Action Rifle Match Society (US ARMS) is an action shooting sport dedicated to providing owners of modern sporting rifles an opportunity to compete and develop their shooting skills.

Shooters will expect to run through various courses of fire that change weekly, using modern sporting rifles.

Head To Head Archery Tournament

Put your skills to the test

Are you the best of the best? Take on other archers in a double-elimination, heads up, vegas-style shoot. In the ultimate test of your skills, archers will face off head to head in a best of 3 ends, with the winner advancing on to the next round. Losers will battle their way back to the final in the redemption bracket.

$25 buy-in with a 50% payout for the winners. Classes will consist of Male Compound and Female Compound. Warm ups begin at 12pm and scoring beginning at 2pm, so shooters are encouraged to come early and get in some practice before the shoot begins!

Family Gun Safety @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

Family Gun Safety

This class is meant for families with children under 10. With an emphasis on family gun safety in the home. The goal for this course is to educate children and their parents on the responsibilities and proper attitude of firearm ownership in the home.

Following the guides set in place by the NRA’s Eddie Eagle program this class instructs children on the principles of “Stop, don’t touch, run away, and tell a grown-up.” There will also be a Q&A session on family gun safety, proper firearm storage, and the responsibilities that come with keeping a gun in a home with children. This class will not teach firearms handling or marksmanship.
