Ladies Handgun Fundamentals @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

This is a 3 hour basic handgun course designed to educate the student on the safe handling and use of a handgun. Topics covered will be: basic firearms safety, firearm manipulation, general maintenance and fundamentals of marksmanship. This course requires that the student demonstrate the ability to utilize safe gun handling techniques while participating in a 50 round shooting course.

Equipment Needed: Students will be required to have a personal firearm (handgun), 50 rounds of ammunition, hearing and eye protection and one target. Note: These materials are available for rent and/or purchase at Governors Gun Club prior to the class if needed.

Additional Materials: pistol cleaning kit, shop rags, notepad and pen.

There will be a written test at the end of this class. Passing of the class requires an 80% or better test score.

At the successful completion of this course the student will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.

Governors is offering special courses tailored for active Real Estate agents.  Let this course provide an early step toward having peace of mind when meeting and showing property to your clients.  The 3 hour course is designed to educate the beginning student on the safe handling and use of a handgun.

AR-15 Fundamentals @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

So you’ve got an AR,
It’s time to learn how to use it!

If you are new to the world’s most versatile weapons platform then this class is for you! This Introduction to the AR-15 class is for the novice shooter, owner, or potential buyer of an AR-15 type rifle to become familiar in the operation of the weapon system. Exercises will include basic shooting fundamentals, field stripping, cleaning, loading and reloading, and malfunction clearance.

At the end of this course of instruction, the student will:

  1. Demonstrate the proper grip and shooting stance
  2. Demonstrate how to properly load, and then clear and make safe the AR -15.
  3. Correctly, zero their own weapon system.
  4. Properly explain the effects of the path of their bullet now with their chosen zero.
  5. Completely breakdown, clean, lubricate and reassemble their AR-15, to include function testing.  course is now a LIVE FIRE COURSE.  The 100 rounds will be used for physical sighting and or confirmation of your actual zero.

Course requirements:

AR 15 style weapon system, eyes, ears, at least 2 magazines and 100 rounds ammunition. (Note: These materials will be available for rent at the Governors Gun Club Range)

Instructor: Colin Windmill

Colin Windmill served in the United States Marine Corps for six years. His experience has been extensive and diverse ranging from infantry tactics, firearms instructor, as well as squad leadership.He has served two combat deployments to Iraq (2006-07 2009-10) and was involved in Operation Trade Winds (2011 Task Force South) where he conducted firearms training to 21 foreign nations. He also has extensive knowledge of a variety of firearms.

Youth Archery @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

Parents, are your kids interested in learning Archery?  Movies such as the “Hunger Games” has made Archery more popular than ever.  This 2-hour course is designed to educate the youth student on how to safely handle and use a traditional or compound bow.  Topics covered will be: basic archery safety, proper bow handling, general maintenance, and correct Archery form.  This course requires that the student demonstrate the ability to utilize safe bow handling techniques while providing a fun and educational time for students and their families.  This course is limited to students from ages 7 to 15 years old.  Parents are welcome to watch the activities.

All equipment and materials will be provided for students for this course.

At the successful completion of this course the student will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and will be ready to move on to more advanced instruction.

Attention Teachers! While you are taking a break from school spend some time in our classroom- with our firearms training class at the Governors Gun Club.

This 3 hour course is designed to educate the student on the safe handling and use of a handgun. Topics covered will be: basic firearms safety, firearm manipulation, general maintenance and fundementals of marksmanship. This course requires that the student demonstrate the ability to utilize safe gun handling techniques while participating in a 25 round shooting course.

 

NOTE: The materials are available for rent and/or purchase at Governors Gun Club prior to class if needed. Additional materials: notepad and pen. There will be a written test at the end of this class. A minimum score of 80% is required to pass the class. Upon successful completion of this course the student will be awarded a Certificate of Completion from GGC.

Instructor: Buford Jones

Buford Jones is a Life Member of the NRA and certified NRA Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun instructor. He served in the US Army, Georgia National Guard, and US Army Reserve for 24 years as Military Police, Investigator, and instructor for firearms and evasive driving before retiring from the service. He retired from the Cobb County Police Department in 2015 where he served as a patrol officer, training officer, P.O.S.T. firearms instructor, negotiator, investigator and supervisor.
He is currently employed as a police officer for a local school district and maintains his P.O.S.T Firearms Training Certification. He is a former Georgia National Guard Combat Pistol champion and has been instructing firearms safety and marksmanship for over 30 years.

Holster Draw & Rapid Fire @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

This course will cover the basics of safely drawing a handgun from a hip holster, or thigh holster from the strong side (weapon firing side). Then go into presenting the handgun towards the target and firing in a rapid fire manner.

Rapid fire for this purpose and use on the Governors Gun Club Range is defined as one shot per second. Successful completion of this course will meet the requirements necessary to draw from a holster and fire when on the GGC Range. This class WILL NOT be designed to teach anyone fast draw techniques.

Equipment needed: Handgun, holster, 50 rounds of ammo, eye and ear protection. All holsters will be inspected by the instructor for safety and security. Ie… the holster must hold the gun securely where it cannot fall out.

For safety reasons there will be no cross draw, shoulder or behind the back holsters allowed in the class.

Instructor: Mike Watkins

Mike’s Law Enforcement career spans 26 years, with 16 years on SWAT in upstate New York. Over Mikes enforcement careers he held assignments as Patrol Officer, K9 Handler, Sergeant, Narcotics Investigator, Lieutenant, SWAT Commander and Chief of Police.

Mike holds numerous Instructor certifications to include: Firearms, Defensive Tactic’s, Combat First Aid, Reality Based training, and was the Lead instructor for multiple SWAT Operator and Firearms Instructor courses. He is also the Chairman of the Board for the New York Tactical Officers Association, where he instructs Operational Planning, Team Leader Development, Warrant Service and Advanced Weapon Operations.

Rifle Sighting 101 @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

Are your interested in learning the correct way to sight in your rifle?  This three (3) hour course is designed to educate the student on how to safely handle and sight in rifles.  Topics covered will be: basic rifle safety, proper rifle sighting, and general maintenance of rifle sights.  Students will be lead through classroom theory, 25 Yard rifle range setup and getting on paper, and finally students will practice their new-found skills on the Governors Gun Club 100 Yard High Powered Rifle Range.  This course requires that the student demonstrate the ability to utilize safe rifle handling techniques while providing a fun and educational time for students.  This course is limited to six (6) students.

Equipment needed:  rifle with iron sights or scope, eye and ear protection.  Each student should also have rifle and scope manufactures owners’ manual for review.  Ammunition for up to 75 rounds of fire.  We have all items needed for your class available for rental as well.

At the successful completion of this course the student will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement and will be ready to move on to more advanced instruction.

Instructor: Nick Edwards

 Nick is originally from upstate NY and joined the Marine Corps at age 18. Serving 8 years in the Marines, doing two deployments to Afghanistan a deployment to Japan and one deployment on ship. He served the majority of my term with 3rd Battalion 6th Marines as a Scout Sniper and also served as a Helicopter Insert and Extract/Assault Climber Instructor for Expeditionary Operations Training Group.

Recently, he has moved on from the Marine Corps to pursue a acting career and get my Bachelors Degree in Marketing Management.

Shotgun Fundamentals @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

Learn to shoot clays the right way! This course will discuss the fundamentals of basic clay shooting and the fundamentals of clay shooting.

While on our Indoor Shotgun Field students will be instructed on proper shot placement as well as the basics of shotgun safety and the best shooting form in a fun, safe, and educational environment.

Topics covered will be: basic shot gun safety, proper shotgun handling, general maintenance, and correct shotgun form. This course requires that students demonstrate safe shotgun handling techniques, while providing a fun, safe, and educational time.

Equipment needed:  Shogun, Shooting Vest, Eye and Ear Protection.  All materials are available for rent at our range. Ammunition will need to be purchased through GGC as our shotgun field requires steel shot ammunition.

At the successful completion of this course the student will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and will be ready to move on to more advanced instruction

Introduction to Archery @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

All Ages are Welcome!

Get started into a lifelong love of all things Archery! Our beginner adult archery class is a 2 hour long class that will teach the basics of how to shoot a re-curve bow. Everything from safety, to basic form and shooting. This session will consist of classroom time and hands on training at the range.

 

What if I don’t have any experience with archery? This is not an issue. This class will teach you archery from the ground up.
