Empowering Women Fundamentals @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

Here at Governors Gun Club we love for our women to feel comfortable and empowered while holding using their firearms for target practice or self-defense. This class will be taught by women, to women, in the hopes to to allow a common view of learning for all the basic knowledge and get as comfortable as possible with a firearm.

In this class women will learn the 4 universal rules of firearm safety as well as the responsibilities of a firearm owner and the 5 fundamentals of shooting.

These women will also learn the difference in semi-automatic handguns and revolvers as well as many other firearms so our women will find which firearms is most compatible to their needs. There will be a basic understand of ammunition and what happens when a firearm is fired as well as understanding and working through the different malfunctions of your firearm.

There will be extensive knowledge given in this course and on the range during this time. Don’t miss out!

Instructors

Josette Chmiel

Josette, a native New Yorker, grew up in a very firearm friendly environment from a young age. As an adolescent, Josette grew up in an environment where firearm safety and education was encouraged.

For 10 years, she has been actively involved in our 2A rights.  As a volunteer and current board member of Grass Roots NC, she works the front lines defending our 2A rights.

Josette continues to hone her own firearm skills with various trainers and strong focus on training women in self-empowerment thru self-protection. She has been teaching and writing her own successful curriculum for the past 6 years, including her newly launched 4-part Empowering Women Series.  Josette is very passionate about her students learning the necessary means to protect themselves, covering grounds from less lethal forms of self-defense to embracing new shooters and assisting those interested in stepping out into competitions.

Her current teaching certifications include NRA Basic Pistol, NRA Inside & Outside the Home Protection, Chief Range Safety Officer. She is also qualified to teach the NC Concealed Carry Class.

Jordan Monroe

Jordan Monroe is a 6 year Marine Corps Veteran. As an Infantryman he served one deployment to Afghanistan, one deployment to Japan and another deployment on ship. He enjoys shooting all types of guns including handguns and rifles. He is a 4 times rifle expert qualification in the USMC and 1 time sharpshooter in pistol qualification. He enjoys teaching handgun and rifle fundamentals to newer and less experienced shooters.

Handgun Cleaning @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

HANDGUN CLEANING CLASS DESCRIPTION

 

PURPOSE:  To learn how to safely & properly field strip (disassemble), clean and reassemble your pistol.

CLASS SIZE:  This class will be limited to 6 students in order to ensure personalized attention as well as maintaining safety.

MATERIALS PROVIDED:  Students will be provided a cleaning mat, cleaning swabs as well as a take home basic cleaning kit.

 

In this hands-on class, students will learn the following:

  • Field Stripping of firearm
  • Terminology of the 4 basic parts of their pistol
  • Familiarity & purpose of cleaning solvents & lubrications
  • List of additional items needed in the correct cleaning of a gun
  • Application of solvents & lubrications
  • Proper reassembly of gun
  • Safe function testing of firearm
  • Test fire of handgun

 

MATERIALS TO BRING TO CLASS:

  • One pistol, unloaded & cased
  • Your gun’s owner’s manual (this is mandatory!)
  • Safety glasses
  • Latex gloves (if you chose)
  • A toothbrush (can be used as long as it’s clean!)
  • An old (but clean) cloth or rag
  • 10-20 rounds of live ammo

Handgun Advanced Operations @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

This course is not for the beginner operator of a handgun and is not a target shooting bulls eye course. The student will be expected to have a basic understanding of the safe handling and overall operation of their handgun. Topics introduced will be from the basic to the complex. Stressors will be introduced as the student progresses through the course. During the course the student will be exposed to a variety of new techniques, positions and shooting assignments.

This course will be physically demanding, an open mind and desire to operate their handgun to its fullest extent is required.

At the end of this course of instruction, the student will:

  1. Properly conduct emergency and tactical/deliberate magazine changes
  2. List and demonstrate 3 carry positions
  3. Properly remediate type 1 and type 2 malfunctions
  4. List 4 After Action Drills
  5. Properly engage multiple threats in depth
  6. Properly engage targets utilizing 2 handed support hand grip
  7. Properly engage targets utilizing 1 handed strong hand and support hand grip
  8. Properly remediate type 1 and type 2 malfunctions with ONE hand only
  9. Engage multiple threats WHILE moving

 

PREREQUISITE AND REQUIRED GEAR: – CERTIFIED/AUTHORIZED HOLSTER DRAW, HANDGUN WITH HOLSTER, 3 SPARE MAGAZINES, EYES, EARS, 300 ROUNDS 

Instructor: Jeff Cain

Jeff has many years of public service: serving in the US Air Force, Texas State Guard Medical Brigade, Shelby County (TN) Sheriff’s Office and local agencies. He has served as an EMT, Search and Rescue team member, protection & SAR dog trainer, armed security and instructor for multiple disciplines.

Jeff is NRA certified to teach Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, Personal Protection in The Home, Personal Protection Outside the Home, and Range Safety Officer. He constantly takes new courses to reinforce existing skills and to add new skills to his repertoire.

Jeff’s teaching philosophy revolves around teaching simple, memorable and repeatable skills that can be recalled and applied during stressful situations. Your safety is his number one priority.

Skills & Drills Fundamentals @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

Description

This class is the 2nd in a 4-part Training series.  Co-Ed Handgun Fundamentals or Empowering Women Fundamentals is a prerequisite for this class & must have been successfully completed prior to taking this course.

Women’s Fundamental Skills & Drills is a two-hour course designed as a Beginners-level class that will occur on the range. This course will test the students’ ability to consistently demonstrate firearm safety while handling a firearm. Proper shooting stance, grip, aiming, trigger control, and follow thru will be the focus of the drills performed. Drills are designed to create proper muscle memory while expanding the students’ skill & confidence level. Students will increase their ability to strike the target in a designated area while in a stationary position while performing fundamentals correctly.

 

Terminal Learning Objective (TLO)

In an indoor, low-stress environment, upon completion of the course, all students are expected to be proficient with the proper handling of their firearm, including safety.  This includes using the proper terminology associated with their firearm. Through repetition of the drills, they will demonstrate their knowledge/skills of all of the external feature of their pistol (magazine release, slide stop, racking the slide, locking the slide back, sights etc..) or their revolver (ejector rod, cylinder release, hammer, etc..).  Drills will be performed at a short-range distance of 3-7 yards while in a stationary position.  By the end of class, all students will be able to demonstrate efficient use of their firearm.

 

Required Course Materials

  • Students will be required to provide a personal firearm, with three magazines (pistol) or two speed loaders (revolver).
  • 75-100 rounds of ammunition.
  • Magazine pouch or Kydex magazine holster.
  • Hearing and eye protection.
  • Minimum of 5 snap caps/ dummy rounds
  • Note: All targets are provided as course material
  • Wear comfortable clothing, closed-toed shoes & no low-cut shirts.

 

Required Note of Warning:

 Governors Gun Club reserves the right to remove any student from the course for safety concerns or frequent safety infractions. No money will be refunded, and the individual will be refused further training instruction until the successful completion of Handgun Fundamentals and Safety Courses. This is a two-hour live fire course.

One 10-minute break will be provided at the beginning of the 2nd hour.

All drills will be run with shooters working in unison upon instructors’ commands.

The pace of the drills will be determined by the skill & safety level of the students.

Students will be provided one-on-one instruction throughout the class.

Empowering Women Intermediate @ Governors gun Club Kennesaw

This class is the 3RD in a 4-part Training series.  Handgun Fundamentals or Empowering Women Fundamentals AND  Skills & Drills Fundamentals are both a prerequisite for this class.  The student must have successfully completed those two classes prior to taking this course.

 

Empowering Women II is a six-hour course designed as the next step for women to expand their knowledge base in this 4 part series.  This course will begin with a classroom & range review of safety and marksmanship fundamentals.  The class will then move into more advanced knowledge & skills (see below).  The class will end with additional range time, as the students move into advanced skills.

  • Cover various accessories: sights, lasers, grips, mounted lights/flashlights, shooting belts
  • Building a comprehensive range bag

  • Introduction to holster draw
  • Clearing malfunctions (tactical)
  • Advanced range drills

Sport Shotgun Fundamentals @ Governors Gun Club Kennesaw

Learn to shoot clays the right way! This course will discuss the fundamentals of basic sport shooting and the fundamentals of clay shooting.

While on our Indoor Shotgun Field students will be instructed on proper shot placement as well as the basics of shotgun safety and the best shooting form in a fun, safe, and educational environment.

Topics covered will be: basic shot gun safety, proper shotgun handling, general maintenance, and correct shotgun form. This course requires that students demonstrate safe shotgun handling techniques, while providing a fun, safe, and educational time.

Equipment needed:  Shotgun, Shooting Vest, Eye and Ear Protection.  All materials are available for rent at our range. Ammunition will need to be purchased through GGC as our shotgun field requires steel shot ammunition.

At the successful completion of this course the student will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and will be ready to move on to more advanced instruction

This course will test the students’ ability to consistently demonstrate firearm safety while handling a firearm. Proper shooting stance, grip, aiming, trigger control, and follow thru will be the focus of the drills performed. Drills are designed to create proper muscle memory while expanding the students’ skill & confidence level. Students will increase their ability to strike the target in a designated area while in a stationary position while performing fundamentals correctly.

 

Terminal Learning Objective (TLO)

In an indoor, low-stress environment, upon completion of the course, all students are expected to be proficient with the proper handling of their firearm, including safety.  This includes using the proper terminology associated with their firearm. Through repetition of the drills, they will demonstrate their knowledge/skills of all of the external feature of their pistol (magazine release, slide stop, racking the slide, locking the slide back, sights etc..) or their revolver (ejector rod, cylinder release, hammer, etc..).  Drills will be performed at a short-range distance of 3-7 yards while in a stationary position.  By the end of class, all students will be able to demonstrate efficient use of their firearm.

 

Required Course Materials

  • Students will be required to provide a personal firearm, with three magazines (pistol) or two speed loaders (revolver).
  • 75-100 rounds of ammunition.
  • Hearing and eye protection.
  • Minimum of 5 snap caps/ dummy rounds
  • Note: All targets are provided as course material
  • Wear comfortable clothing, closed-toed shoes & no low-cut shirts.

 

Required Note of Warning:

 Governors Gun Club reserves the right to remove any student from the course for safety concerns or frequent safety infractions. No money will be refunded, and the individual will be refused further training instruction until the successful completion of Handgun Fundamentals and Safety Courses. If the written or performance test are not passed (where applicable), a later date will be scheduled for remedial training so the student can have a chance to continue to progress.

Course Schedule

This is a two-hour live fire course.

One 10-minute break will be provided at the beginning of the 2nd hour.

All drills will be run with shooters working in unison upon instructors’ commands.

The pace of the drills will be determined by the skill & safety level of the students.

Students will be provided one-on-one instruction throughout the class.

  • Live fire drills reinforcing gun safety & fundamentals
  • Demonstration of clearing a firearm
  • Introduction to magazine changes (time permitting)
  • One-handed, strong hand shooting (time permitting)
  • Confidence Drills

Instructors

Josette Chmiel

Josette, a native New Yorker, grew up in a very firearm friendly environment from a young age. As an adolescent, Josette grew up in an environment where firearm safety and education was encouraged.

For 10 years, she has been actively involved in our 2A rights.  As a volunteer and current board member of Grass Roots NC, she works the front lines defending our 2A rights.

Josette continues to hone her own firearm skills with various trainers and strong focus on training women in self-empowerment thru self-protection. She has been teaching and writing her own successful curriculum for the past 6 years, including her newly launched 4-part Empowering Women Series.  Josette is very passionate about her students learning the necessary means to protect themselves, covering grounds from less lethal forms of self-defense to embracing new shooters and assisting those interested in stepping out into competitions.

Her current teaching certifications include NRA Basic Pistol, NRA Inside & Outside the Home Protection, Chief Range Safety Officer. She is also qualified to teach the NC Concealed Carry Class.

Jordan Monroe

Jordan Monroe is a 6 year Marine Corps Veteran. As an Infantryman he served one deployment to Afghanistan, one deployment to Japan and another deployment on ship. He enjoys shooting all types of guns including handguns and rifles. He is a 4 times rifle expert qualification in the USMC and 1 time sharpshooter in pistol qualification. He enjoys teaching handgun and rifle fundamentals to newer and less experienced shooters.

Cancellation and Refund Policy
All sales are final and no refunds are offered for any cancellations or missed classes. However, if you cancel at least 48 hours before the class, your registration and course fee can be used for the same course within 60 days. Policy subject to change without notice.If a participant neglects to show and inform instructor, they are subject to no rescheduling period. Rescheduling period for customers will be 60 days from your original class date.
